1. Privacy & Data Protection

Your use of The Inner Atlas is subject to our Privacy Policy. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand our practices regarding the collection and use of your personal information, data storage, and international data transfers.

2. Eligibility & Age Restrictions

The Portrait assessment can be accessed by individuals of any age. However, our Sanctuary Retreat experiences are restricted to participants who are 18 years of age or older. By accessing or using The Inner Atlas, you represent that you meet the eligibility requirements for the services you are using.

3. The Portrait Assessment

Educational Purpose Only: The Portrait assessment is provided for self-reflection, personal inquiry, and educational purposes only. It is not medical advice, psychological diagnosis, therapy, financial advice, or professional counseling of any kind.

Methodology Ownership: The Inner Atlas owns all intellectual property rights to the assessment methodology, questions, and framework. You retain ownership of your personal responses and may share your assessment results with others at your discretion.

No Professional Relationship: Using the Portrait assessment does not create a therapeutic, medical, financial, or professional relationship between you and The Inner Atlas. If you require professional support, please consult with qualified practitioners.

Data Retention: Your assessment responses are stored securely on Supabase and will be deleted six months following your participation in a Sanctuary Retreat (or six months from assessment completion if you do not participate in a retreat). You may request deletion of your assessment data at any time by contacting us at feedback@theinneratlas.space.

4. Sanctuary Retreat Experiences

4.1 Health Disclosure & Requirements

Participation in Sanctuary Retreats requires disclosure of health information relevant to your safety at high altitude. You must disclose any of the following conditions:

  • Uncontrolled or severe hypertension
  • Severe respiratory conditions or chronic lung disease
  • Current pregnancy or post-partum status within the past 3 months
  • Recent surgery or medical procedures
  • Previous severe altitude sickness or high altitude cerebral edema (HACE)
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Heart arrhythmias or certain cardiac conditions
  • Severe anxiety, panic disorder, or unmanaged mental health conditions

Medical clearance is not required, but you must acknowledge understanding of the health risks associated with high-altitude environments and confirm that you do not have conditions that would make retreat participation unsafe.

4.2 Altitude & Climate Information

Our Sanctuary Retreats take place in Yunnan, China, at elevations between 2,500 and 3,200 meters (8,200–10,500 feet). This is a high-altitude environment with the following characteristics:

  • Elevation: 2,500–3,200 meters above sea level
  • Oxygen Levels: Approximately 70–80% of sea-level oxygen availability
  • Temperature Variability: Significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, and across seasons
  • UV Exposure: Higher levels of UV radiation due to altitude and reduced atmospheric protection
  • Humidity: Variable humidity; dryness at certain elevations

4.3 Health Risks Associated with High Altitude

High-altitude environments carry inherent health risks, particularly for individuals not acclimated to such elevations. You acknowledge and accept the following risks:

  • Altitude Sickness: Including acute mountain sickness (AMS), high altitude cerebral edema (HACE), and high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE), which can develop rapidly and become life-threatening
  • Cardiovascular Stress: Increased heart rate, blood pressure fluctuations, and cardiovascular strain as your body adapts to lower oxygen levels
  • Respiratory Challenges: Shortness of breath, reduced exercise tolerance, and increased susceptibility to respiratory infections
  • Temperature-Related Issues: Hypothermia, heat exhaustion, or frostbite depending on weather conditions and individual responses
  • Dehydration & Fatigue: Increased fluid loss and mental fatigue due to the body's adaptation process
  • Sleep Disruption: Common at high altitude; may affect cognitive function and emotional regulation
  • UV-Related Damage: Increased risk of sunburn and long-term skin damage due to elevated UV exposure

4.4 Health Contraindications — Retreat Not Recommended

The following conditions make high-altitude retreat participation inadvisable. If you have any of these conditions, we strongly recommend that you do not participate in the Sanctuary Retreat:

  • Uncontrolled or severe hypertension (blood pressure consistently above 160/100 mmHg)
  • Severe chronic respiratory conditions (COPD, severe asthma, interstitial lung disease)
  • Current pregnancy or within 3 months post-partum
  • Recent surgery or invasive medical procedures (within the past 4 weeks)
  • History of severe altitude sickness, HACE, or HAPE
  • Uncontrolled diabetes with frequent hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic episodes
  • Significant heart arrhythmias or advanced cardiac disease
  • Severe, unmanaged anxiety or panic disorder

4.5 Separate Liability Waiver

All Sanctuary Retreat participants must sign a separate liability waiver prior to participation. This waiver acknowledges the inherent risks of high-altitude environments and releases The Inner Atlas, retreat providers, and associated entities from liability for injury, illness, or death resulting from or related to participation in the retreat, including but not limited to altitude-related medical emergencies.

4.6 Data Sharing with Retreat Providers

If you register for a Sanctuary Retreat, your name, email address, assessment insights, health information, and retreat preferences will be shared with our retreat providers and partners to ensure your safety, customize your experience, and facilitate logistics. You consent to this data sharing by proceeding with retreat registration.

5. Paid Services & Refund Policy

Non-Refundable Policy: All paid services—including extended Portrait assessment analysis, additional digital content, and Sanctuary Retreat registrations—are non-refundable once accessed or confirmed. This includes cases where you change your mind, encounter technical difficulties, or decide not to participate after registration.

Refund Inquiries: If you have questions or concerns about a specific charge, please contact us at feedback@theinneratlas.space. We will review your inquiry and respond within 7 business days.
